In what is an unchanged line up from 2023 our sires with runners have been having a stellar season. PRIZED ICON has produced multiple Gr. 1 winner and likely candidate to be crowned the Champion 3yo filly in the country TROPICAL SQUALL, in only his first crop of racing age. His progeny are getting better with age and over a trip and we expect a big spring awaits.
THE BROTHERS WAR has topped off a massive Autumn with ASGARDA winning the $1 Million Country Championships and BANDI'S BOY winning the Gr. 3 Star Kingdom stakes. With very limited opportunity it is great to see his progeny doing so well, with 62.5% winners to runners at the end of 23/24 racing season with his 39 starters returning connections over $2.2 Million, with his progeny now averaging over $107K per starter on the race track, he really must be considered one of the best value sires in the country.
MERCHANT NAVY was an extremely talented racehorse, winning 7 of his 10 starts. The smart son of Fastnet Rock was unbeaten at 2, before winning the Gr. 1 Coolmore stud stakes in the Spring of his 3yo year. MERCHANT NAVY ended his career under the tutelage of Aiden O’Brien which saw him victorious in his 2 starts for O’Brien in the Gr. 2 Greenland S. at the Curragh before taking out the Gr.1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot. Other career highlights included wins in the VRC Anzac Day S. L and the Gr. 2 HDF McNeil S. as well as placings in the Rubiton S. Gr.2 (Beaten 0.4L) and the Newmarket Hcp. Gr. 1 (beaten 0.3L).
MERCHANT NAVY is already a proven Gr. 1 producing sire with his first crop filly ROYAL MERCHANT beating a seasoned sprinting field in the Gr.1 Goodwood. He has also produced recent stakes winner COTTEE and Gr. 3 winner STEEL CITY. Siring winners of over 100 races in the 23/24 season and sitting just outside the top 50 sires in the country, his progeny are getting better with age and winning between 1000m -2400+. We are expecting a big Spring for Merchant Navy in 2024, with a number of progressive types winning multiple races in the lead up. Kooringal are eagerly awaiting Merchant Navy's foals this Spring, in what will be his first since relocating from the Hunter Valley.
FINANCE TYCOON is another exciting proposition that we are thrilled to offer breeders. A very precocious 2yo with fantastic, sustained speed. This saw FINANCE TYCOON win the Gr. 3 Maribyrnong Plate as a pre-Christmas 2yo. Other career highlights saw him win the $950,000 VOBIS Showdown by 4.5L in the slick time of 1:08.91 over the 1200m. Wins in the Gold Nugget and the Gr. 3 Zeditave Stakes also added to a strong career for this sharp son of Written Tycoon. We have a number of his first foals at the farm and are thrilled with what we are seeing. Big strong horses, with plenty of power behind the saddle.
Exciting stakes winning 2yo and 3yo SANDBAR is standing alongside the others. By sire sensation Snitzel and a 3/4 brother to champion 2yo and Golden Slipper winner Farnan. His oldest progeny are now rising 2yo with some fabulous types and great reports from breakers and trainers. They appear to be a very fast maturing breed, with fantastic balance and athleticism.
All five stallions vary in conformation and pedigree, giving breeders a great choice in selecting a suitable match for their mare.
