Prized Icon colt catches the eye in Adelaide

Respected bloodstock agent Damon Gabbedy has given a glowing endorsement for Kooringal Stud’s dual Group 1-winning sire Prized Icon.

Damon joined forces with top trainer Tony McEvoy to purchase a Prized Icon colt (pictured) for $50,000 at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale in March.

The brown November foal was from the placed Street Cry mare Set The Limit, who has also produced the three-time sprint winner Highest Standard.

“This was a really attractive colt by a well-credentialed first season sire,”

“He is going to the McEvoy stable and the boys loved him.

“And when we looked into the credentials of Prized Icon they were even more excited.”

Damon said the youngster had the looks to match his pedigree.

“He caught the eye ... a very strong, powerful horse,” Damon said.

“He’s mature enough to definitely try as a two-year-old.”

Damon admitted he an unabashed fan of the More Than Ready sireline.

“He’s proven to be a sire of sires through the likes of Sebring and Better Than Ready,” Damon said.

“Prized Icon is remembered as a (Victoria) Derby winner but you cannot forget that he was also a Group 1-winning juvenile (of the Champagne Stakes).

“Champion sires can come from everywhere and Prized Icon has credentials as good as any of the first season sires.”

Earlier in the sale another Prized Icon colt was knocked down for $20,000.

The chestnut was from the unraced Fastnet Rock mare Pretty Fancy, who was a three-quarter sister to renowned sire Smart Missile.
