Kooringal proud of 'Prized' possessions

Stunning, strong and smart are some of the compliments being showered on Prized Icon’s “babies” as they take the next step in the developmental stages of their lives.

Kooringal Stud is in the process of weaning its 2020 crop of foals, with Prized Icon’s progeny living right up to the high expectations of their imposing dual Group 1-winning sire.

Prized Icon’s impressive first crop includes sons of the proven broodmares Maltese and Miss Cacciatore.

Maltese’s bay colt has a proud family tradition to uphold.

His five siblings to race have all tasted success and include two stakeswinners.

Leading the charge is the brilliant speedster Ancestry, whose sire The Brothers War stands alongside Prized Icon at Kooringal.

Ancestry stamped his quality by winning the Listed Mumm Stakes over 1000 metres at Flemington on Oaks Day.

The four-year-old has already tallied eight wins – ranging from 955m to 1200m – for leading trainer Phillip Stokes.

Maltese has also produced the precocious juvenile Diamond Tathagata, who earned a Golden Slipper berth by taking out the Group 2 Skyline Stakes at Randwick.

Ancestry and Diamond Tathagata have accumulated more than $700,000 in prizemomey between them.

Miss Cacciatore, a daughter of champion sire Snitzel, continues to emerge in the broodmare ranks.

Headlining Miss Cacciatore’s progeny is the city-winning Casa De Lago.

Casa De Lago won five races – including two at Moonee Valley - and gained black type status with a second in the Strutt Stakes in Tasmania.

Run The Table and Saucy Deluxe are Miss Cacciatore’s only other two foals to race and are both winners this season.

Miss Cacciatore is a half-sister to the Singapore champion Lim’s Objective, while her second dam Hasty Departure was victorious in the Group 1 Western Australian Oaks.

Prized Icon has a lovely bay colt from Miss Cacciatore.

The son of More Than Ready entered stud in 2019 with wins in the time-honoured AJC Champagne Stakes (1600m) and VRC Derby (2500m) to his name.

Prized Icon was an outstanding type who turned heads on the racetrack and now his offspring are set to follow suit in the sale ring.
