Bandi’s Boy has made a rapid transformation from a battling baby to a giant-killing juvenile.
The son of Kooringal Stud stallion The Brothers War defied his tough start to life to win a $130,000 two-year-old event at only his second start at Randwick on April 23 (pictured with Willie Pike in the saddle).
“Bandi’s Boy’s dam Tibidabo died not long after he was foaled so he had to be raised as a poddy,” Kooringal’s Angus Lamont said.
“Unfortunately he is Tibidabo’s only foal.”
Bandi’s Boy produced an encouraging opening to his career, finishing fifth in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes on debut for Goulburn trainer Danny Williams.
The black gelding took the next step to win by more than a length at Randwick before heading for the spelling paddock.
Bandi’s Boy was bred by his owner John Woods and is the result of a breeding match carried out by Angus.
“Tibidabo was a Hinchinbrook mare and I really liked the Star Kingdom and Mr Prospector bloodlines coming through her dam as well as the Nijinsky blood that Fastnet Rock had to offer. It just complemented the cross beautifully” Angus said.
“It was such a great result for John, we were thrilled for him and I’m glad that the faith he put in my recommendation has paid off.”
“Bandi’s Boy has been a great result for John and looks to be a smart horse going forward.
“He has more than paid for himself already.”
Angus is currently available to carry out stallion matches for owners looking at options for their broodmares.
The Brothers War is enjoying a strong season – headlined by his Group 3 placegetter Jalmari – after standing 2021 alongside superbly bred freshman sires Sandbar and Last Kingdom in addition to the $2.1 million prizemoney earner Prized Icon.
