Kooringal Stud is proud to offer breeders four stallions for the 2025 season with a mix of colonial and international bloodlines at very reasonable fees.
In what is a fairly unchanged line up from 2024 our sires continue to get the job done on the track.
SANDBAR progeny have hit the ground running, with his first starter Shaggy winning on debut by almost 6L. Before going on to score at his next two starts including a dominant display in the Pierro Plate at Randwick, beating a host of Golden slipper contenders by over 2L. Dusty Bay also pleased connections winning his first start by 5L before having excuses in a couple of stakes races in Sydney. Both horses are expected to come back bigger and better after a break. As of the end of March all Sandbar's progeny had either won or placed when greeting the judge, as well as a number of handy jump out and trial winners ensuring an interesting lead up to their spring 3YO year.
From his fairly limited opportunity SANDBAR'S progeny have shown a great willingness to be racehorses and so the decision has been made to bring his fee more in line with where he deserves to be and already he has more mares booked to him than in previous seasons.
THE BROTHERS WAR continues to punch well above his weight with ASGARDA fresh off winning the $1 Million Country Championships final in 2024, continuing her success by taking out further wins including the Albury city Hcp. taking her earnings to over $900K with a big prep ahead of her. Telecom Fighters has continued to assert his authority with 11 wins to his name in Hong Kong and over A$3.3 Million in Prizemoney. THE BROTHERS WAR progeny now averaging over $118K per starter on the race track and over 65% winners/runners, he really must be considered one of the best value sires in the country.
MERCHANT NAVY was an extremely talented racehorse, winning 7 of his 10 starts. The smart son of Fastnet Rock was unbeaten at 2, before winning the Gr. 1 Coolmore stud stakes in the Spring of his 3yo year. MERCHANT NAVY ended his career under the tutelage of Aiden O’Brien which saw him victorious in his 2 starts for O’Brien in the Gr. 2 Greenland S. at the Curragh before taking out the Gr.1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot. Other career highlights included wins in the VRC Anzac Day S. L and the Gr. 2 HDF McNeil S. as well as placings in the Rubiton S. Gr.2 (Beaten 0.4L) and the Newmarket Hcp. Gr. 1 (beaten 0.3L).
MERCHANT NAVY is already a proven Gr. 1 producing sire with his first crop filly ROYAL MERCHANT beating a seasoned sprinting field in the Gr.1 Goodwood. He has also produced stakes winners COTTEE and Gr. 3 winner STEEL CITY. A smart 2YO has been unleashed in NZ with Landlock just going down in the Gr. 1 Sistema S. by 0.2L as well as placing 4th in the Gr. 1 Sires Produce, 2nd in the Gr. 2 Wakefield Challenge and winning on debut at Wanganui. MERCHANT NAVY's progeny are getting better with age and winning between 1000m -2400+. We are delighted with the first crop of foals he has produced at Kooringal.
FINANCE TYCOON is another exciting proposition that we are thrilled to offer breeders. A very precocious 2yo with fantastic, sustained speed. This saw FINANCE TYCOON win the Gr. 3 Maribyrnong Plate as a pre-Christmas 2yo. Other career highlights saw him win the $950,000 VOBIS Showdown by 4.5L in the slick time of 1:08.91 over the 1200m. Wins in the Gold Nugget and the Gr. 3 Zeditave Stakes also added to a strong career for this sharp son of Written Tycoon. We have a number of his first and second crop at the farm and are thrilled with what we are seeing. Big strong horses, with plenty of power behind the saddle. We can't wait to see what his 2YO's can manage in the coming season.
