SMOOTH SHIRAZ AT ROSEHILL

On a day when the wine usually flows freely, appropriately named Shiraz produced a smooth performance to score his first city win for trainer Tony McEvoy at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, November 1.  Bred and owned by Kooringal client Colleen Dwyer, Shiraz is by Zariz out of Moville Slipper who is at stud to Zariz again this season.  Shiraz started favourite and was slow to begin, settling further back than planned.  Jockey Shaun Guymer was able to keep cool and consequently Shriaz was able to sprint home very strongly between runners to take the win by three quarters of a length to Inside Job and Encostanti.  Tony McEvoy who hails from the famous wine-growing Barossa Valley will no doubt be celebrating with a drop of red. “It was a really good win” McEvoy said, “I think he might get 1200 metres, maybe even 1400, whereas previously we thought he was just best up to 1100 metres. He is a talented horse."
